Was wondering what other folks think of this.
Just read an article about Titanfall and it was talking about how while it is not the “Call of Duty Killer’ it is introducing some new ideas that will change the way COD is designed in the future. It is naive to think COD wont change as competition enters the market. One primary thing they point out is the Burn Card idea AND the elimination of the Kill Streak.
For those that have not played the Beta, completing challenges unlocks equipment but also unlocks a One Life Use card called a burn card. These can be anything from the use of a special gun or equipment all the way to double XP and awesome perks. You can queue up 3 of them but can only use one at a time.
Anyway, a lot of people worried the Titans would be high end kill streaks reserved only for the best players. But Everyone gets a Titan from the very start and everyone has access to the burn cards as they complete challenges. So everyone gets this game changing piece of equipment. In the Beta there were no Kill Streaks and I have to admit it was kind of nice. You still had load out options that make each person unique but you didn’t have this awesome piece of equipment that only the best players could ever get unless you were real lucky. And depending on the challenges you complete the burn card can be really nice like an instant Titan drop.
So removing the troll discussion of Titanfall as a game and a concept, (because it is its own game with its own rules) what I want to know is if you all think changes like these will be seen in other games like COD instead of complete overhauls? In the past each title gives us new equipment and counters but the perk and kill streak concept is pretty much the same. TF does away with it completely and for me it was a nice change. Of course I am still a diehard COD player which is why I am wondering what others see as the way future titles will operate.
